Snap your meal, get a rough nutrition estimate

Send Olive a photo of what is on your plate. It names what it can see, estimates portions and gives a rough breakdown with the uncertainty spelled out, plus one practical idea for next time.

Sample result

A sample estimate: a home-made chicken burrito bowl

The request
[Photo attached] Lunch today. How does this look nutritionally?

What Olive can see

  • White rice, about 1 cup cooked
  • Grilled chicken, roughly palm-sized (about 120 g)
  • Black beans, about half a cup
  • Corn, tomato salsa and shredded lettuce
  • Sour cream and grated cheese on top

One question first

  1. OliveWas the chicken cooked in oil, and is there any dressing under the lettuce? Those change the fat estimate more than anything I can see.
  2. YouAbout a tablespoon of oil for the chicken. No dressing.

Rough estimate

NutrientEstimateConfidence
Energy700–850 kcalMedium: rice and topping portions vary
Protein45–55 gMedium
Carbohydrate80–95 gMedium
Fat22–30 gLower: cheese and sour cream are hard to judge from above
Fibre12–15 gMedium: mostly from the beans

One idea for next time

This is a well-balanced bowl with plenty of protein and fibre. If you would like more vegetables, add sliced peppers and onion when you cook the chicken: same pan, two extra minutes.

What Olive does

  • Identifies the foods it can see in a photo and estimates portion sizes.
  • Gives a rough range for calories, protein, carbohydrate, fat and fibre, and says how confident it is.
  • Asks about what a photo cannot show, such as cooking oil, dressings and sauces, and updates the estimate.
  • Suggests one small, practical tweak, like adding a vegetable or a protein source next time.

What Olive won’t do

  • Not a medical or diabetes tool: never use a photo estimate to dose insulin or manage a condition.
  • Estimates are approximate. Hidden oils, portion depth and recipes vary a lot, and a photo cannot show them.
  • No calorie targets, no judgment about what you ate and no advice to restrict eating. If food feels stressful, Olive points you to a professional.

How it works

  1. Send a photo

In your chat with Olive, attach a photo of the meal, taken from above, with a fork or your hand for scale if you can.

  2. Answer a question or two

Olive asks about what it cannot see, like how the dish was cooked or what is in the dressing.

  3. Get a ranged estimate

You get a breakdown with ranges and a short note on what would change it most.

Questions

How accurate is a photo estimate?

Rough. Even trained people misjudge portions from photos, and a picture cannot show oil, butter or sugar in a sauce. Olive gives ranges and tells you which part is least certain. Treat it as a guide, not a measurement.

Can I use it to count carbs for diabetes?

No. Do not use photo estimates to dose insulin or to manage any medical condition. Your care team can show you reliable carb-counting methods.

Do I need a special app?

No. Once you hire Olive, you chat with it in your ProhostAI workspace and attach photos the way you would in any chat.

Will it log everything I eat?

Only if you ask it to keep notes. Olive is not built for strict tracking; it is there to help you notice patterns and plan better meals.
