TOEFL Speaking practice by voice, with feedback you can act on

Practise TOEFL-style speaking out loud. Lingua gives you the prompt, times your response and gives specific feedback on your delivery, your language and how well you answered the question.

Sample feedback on a timed response

The request
Some people prefer to study alone; others prefer to study in a group. Which do you prefer, and why? (45 seconds)

Your response (transcribed)

“I prefer study in group because when I don’t understand something, my friends can explain it. For example, last semester in math class, we had a difficult exam and…”

Feedback

  • Topic development: a clear opinion and a specific example. Add one sentence that ties the example back to your opinion.
  • Language use: “prefer study” should be “prefer studying” or “prefer to study”.
  • Delivery: you paused for three seconds before the example. A set phrase like “For instance, last semester…” keeps you moving.
  • Timing: you finished at 38 seconds. Use the time left for a one-sentence wrap-up.

What Lingua does

  • Practises short, timed spoken responses in the style of the TOEFL iBT Speaking section.
  • Gives feedback on delivery (pace, pronunciation and pauses), language use and topic development.
  • Builds a set of phrases for organising an answer quickly.
  • Tracks recurring errors and drills them in later sessions.

What Lingua won’t do

  • Practice estimates are not official TOEFL scores.
  • No real or leaked test questions. Check the current test format on the ETS website, because it changes.
  • Does not do graded coursework or take any test for you.

How it works

  1. Call Lingua

Start a voice session in the ProhostAI app and pick the kind of task to practise.

  2. Answer against the clock

Lingua gives the prompt and times your response, the way the test does.

  3. Fix one thing at a time

Each round ends with specific feedback and one thing to change next round.

Questions

Has the TOEFL changed?

ETS updates the TOEFL iBT from time to time, most recently in 2026, so check the current task types on the ETS website. The skills Lingua practises, clear, organised and well-paced answers, carry across formats.

Is this the same as IELTS practice?

The skills overlap, but the tests differ in format and scoring. Lingua has a separate IELTS Speaking practice that follows that test’s three parts.

Can I practise by text?

Speaking practice works best out loud, by voice in the ProhostAI app. Typing works for planning answers and building phrases.

Does it score my answers?

It gives an informal practice estimate with the reasons behind it. Only ETS gives official scores.
